Eleiko was selected as total supplier for the Paralympic Games in London, held at the city’s ExCel Arena. The event was a major success for the sport, with powerlifting exposed to bigger audiences than ever within the Paralympic community. Eleiko supplied a total of 60 complete stations, including equipment, working in close quarters with the local organizing committee (LOCOG) as well as the International Paralympic Committee. Chosen as supplier due to its high standards and excellent level of service, Eleiko gained a glowing report from the LOCOG. Eleiko was delighted to play a role in the success of the event.
The Games succeeded in meeting lofty expectations, breaking records for ticket sales and raising the profile of the Paralympics in relation to the Olympic Games. IPC President Philip Craven declared it “the greatest Paralympic Games ever”.
A total of 200 athletes took part – 120 men and 80 women – across 10 different weight classes. Nigeria topped the medal table, securing six golds, five silvers and one bronze. A total of 14 different nations won medals, with a series of world and Paralympic records being set with Eleiko bars.
As well as providing equipment for the Paralympics, Eleiko was total supplier for the Olympic weightlifting competitions, which were also a big success, featuring a range of world records and packed galleries. In addition, Eleiko supplied equipment for seven training installations in the Olympic village. Many of the world’s foremost athletes across a range of sports are used to training with Eleiko equipment. Barbell drills form a key part of training for sports incorporating strength and speed, and are also used to prevent injury.
